What is Osteoarthritis of Knee?
Osteoarthritis of the knee is a degenerative joint disease in which the protective cartilage cushioning the ends of the bones within the knee joint gradually wears down, leading to bone-on-bone friction, pain, and stiffness. It is the most common form of arthritis and typically develops slowly over years, worsening with age and repetitive joint stress. As cartilage loss progresses, the joint may develop bony spurs, inflammation, and reduced range of motion that increasingly limit mobility. It significantly impacts quality of life, particularly among older adults and those who are overweight.
