Causes of Gastritis
Most commonly caused by infection with Helicobacter pylori bacteria, or by irritation from regular use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen and aspirin. Excessive alcohol consumption, chronic stress from severe illness or injury, and autoimmune conditions that cause the body to attack its own stomach lining are other recognised causes. Smoking and eating very spicy or acidic foods regularly can also aggravate the stomach lining and contribute to symptoms.
