Causes of Articulation Disorder
In most children, articulation disorder arises without a clearly identifiable cause, reflecting a developmental delay in mastering the precise motor coordination needed for clear speech sound production. Contributing factors can include hearing loss that limits a child's ability to accurately hear and imitate speech sounds, structural abnormalities such as cleft palate or tongue-tie, and certain neurological or developmental conditions that affect motor planning and coordination. A family history of speech sound disorders can also increase the likelihood of a child experiencing similar difficulties.
