Causes of Vitiligo
Believed to result from an autoimmune process in which the immune system attacks and destroys melanocytes, though the exact trigger is unclear. Genetic predisposition plays a significant role, and vitiligo often coexists with other autoimmune conditions such as thyroid disease. Stress, sunburn, and skin trauma have also been reported to trigger or worsen patches in some individuals.
