Causes of Upper Respiratory Tract Infection
Caused predominantly by viruses including rhinoviruses, coronaviruses, and adenoviruses, which infect the mucosal lining of the nose and throat and spread through airborne droplets or contact with contaminated surfaces. Close contact in crowded settings, seasonal changes, and low humidity that dries out protective mucous membranes increase susceptibility. A weakened immune system, smoking, and allergic conditions can also raise the frequency and severity of infections.
