Causes of Dental Abscess
A dental abscess most commonly develops from untreated dental caries that allows bacteria to reach and infect the tooth's inner pulp, though it can also result from gum disease, a cracked tooth, or trauma that exposes the pulp to bacterial invasion. Poor oral hygiene, delayed dental treatment, and a weakened immune system all increase the risk and severity of abscess formation. Once bacteria reach the pulp, infection can spread through the root tip into the surrounding bone if not treated promptly.
