Causes of Brain Aneurysm
Results from weakening of the arterial wall at points of natural structural vulnerability, often at branching points of brain arteries. Risk factors include high blood pressure, smoking, family history of brain aneurysms, certain connective tissue disorders, polycystic kidney disease, and excessive alcohol consumption. The combination of inherent wall weakness and chronic hemodynamic stress from blood flow gradually enlarges the aneurysm over time.
