Causes of Osteoarthritis of Knee
Results from the gradual mechanical wear of cartilage combined with low-grade joint inflammation, often accelerated by obesity, previous knee injury, repetitive stress from occupation or sports, and misalignment of the joint. Age is the strongest risk factor, as cartilage naturally loses its resilience over time, while genetics also influences susceptibility. Muscle weakness around the joint further increases mechanical stress on the cartilage.
