Causes of Jaw Fracture
Jaw fractures most commonly result from direct blunt trauma to the face during motor vehicle accidents, falls, sports injuries, physical assaults, or workplace accidents. The location and pattern of the fracture depend on the direction and force of impact, with the lower jaw's weaker points, such as the area near the chin and the jaw joint, being particularly susceptible. Underlying bone weakness from conditions such as osteoporosis or dental disease can also make fractures more likely with lower-impact trauma.
