Causes of Chronic Pain Syndrome
May follow an injury, surgery, or illness that does not fully resolve, or arise from conditions such as arthritis, nerve damage, fibromyalgia, or cancer. Central sensitization, where the nervous system becomes abnormally amplified in its pain response, plays a major role in many cases. Risk factors include prior injury, psychological stress, depression, and certain chronic diseases affecting nerves or joints.
