Causes of Gonorrhoea
Gonorrhoea is caused by the bacterium Neisseria gonorrhoeae, which is transmitted through direct sexual contact, including vaginal, anal, and oral sex, with an infected partner. It can also be transmitted from an infected mother to her newborn during childbirth, potentially causing serious eye infection in the baby if untreated. Having multiple sexual partners, inconsistent condom use, and a prior history of sexually transmitted infections increase the risk of acquiring or transmitting gonorrhoea.
