Causes of Malaria
Caused by infection with Plasmodium parasites, most commonly P. vivax and P. falciparum in India, transmitted through the bite of an infected female Anopheles mosquito that breeds in stagnant water. The parasite multiplies within red blood cells, causing them to rupture in synchronised cycles that produce the classic recurring fever pattern. Risk factors include living in or travelling to endemic areas, inadequate use of mosquito protection, and pregnancy, which increases susceptibility to severe disease.
