Mild cases are managed with intranasal corticosteroid sprays to reduce inflammation and saline nasal irrigation, along with treatment of any underlying allergies. When adenoid enlargement causes significant airway obstruction, recurrent ear infections, or sleep-disordered breathing, surgical removal of the adenoids, called adenoidectomy, is performed and is highly effective at resolving symptoms. This procedure is frequently combined with tonsillectomy or placement of ear ventilation tubes when those conditions coexist.
