Causes of Vocal Cord Nodules
Vocal cord nodules develop from chronic vocal abuse or misuse, including excessive shouting, singing with poor technique, or prolonged loud talking, which causes repeated trauma and localized swelling at the point of maximal cord contact. Over time, repeated injury causes the tissue to thicken and form a callus-like nodule. Occupations and activities that demand heavy voice use, along with underlying acid reflux or smoking that irritates the vocal cords, increase susceptibility.
