Causes of Developmental Delay
Developmental delay can result from genetic conditions such as chromosomal abnormalities, complications during pregnancy or birth such as prematurity or oxygen deprivation, exposure to toxins or infections during pregnancy, and postnatal factors such as severe illness, malnutrition, or lack of environmental stimulation. In many cases, no single identifiable cause is found despite thorough evaluation. Certain risk factors, including low birth weight, family history of developmental disorders, and limited access to early childhood stimulation, increase the likelihood of delay.
