📖What is Cancer Pain?

Cancer pain is persistent or recurrent pain experienced by people with cancer, arising either directly from the tumour itself as it invades or presses on nerves, bones, or organs, or from the various treatments used to fight the disease, such as surgery, chemotherapy, or radiation. It can range from mild, intermittent discomfort to severe, constant pain that significantly impairs daily function and quality of life, and it often has multiple simultaneous contributing causes that must each be addressed. Effective management is a core component of comprehensive cancer care, alongside treatment of the cancer itself, and is guided by a stepwise approach tailored to pain severity and type. Left inadequately treated, cancer pain can worsen physical and emotional wellbeing and reduce a patient's ability to tolerate cancer treatment.
