📖What is Atopic Dermatitis?

Atopic Dermatitis is a chronic, relapsing inflammatory skin condition characterized by intense itching and a compromised skin barrier that makes the skin more susceptible to irritants, allergens, and infection. It is the most common form of eczema and often represents the first manifestation of what is known as the atopic march, a progression that can include food allergies, asthma, and allergic rhinitis later in life. The condition typically begins in early childhood, with many cases improving by adolescence, though it can persist or develop in adulthood. Genetic mutations affecting skin barrier proteins play a central role in its development.
