📖What is Adjustment Disorder?
Adjustment disorder is a psychological condition characterized by an excessive emotional or behavioral response to a significant life stressor or change, such as a divorce, job loss, relocation, illness diagnosis, or bereavement, that occurs within three months of the triggering event. The response is considered disproportionate to what would normally be expected given the nature of the stressor, and it causes significant distress or noticeably impairs a person's ability to function in daily life, work, or relationships. Unlike more chronic mental health conditions, adjustment disorder is directly tied to an identifiable stressor and typically resolves once the stressor is removed or the person develops effective coping strategies, generally within six months. However, if left unaddressed, it can sometimes progress into a more persistent anxiety or depressive disorder.
