Why Bone Marrow Biopsy Is Needed
Doctors order a bone marrow biopsy to diagnose blood cancers like leukemia, lymphoma, or multiple myeloma when blood counts show unexplained abnormalities. It's also used to investigate unexplained anemia, low platelet or white cell counts, or to determine the cause of unexplained fevers and to assess how well cancer treatment is working. Staging certain cancers to check if they have spread to the bone marrow is another common indication.
