Lung Transplant in Kameri, Sangli, Maharashtra

What is Lung Transplant?

Replacement of one or both diseased lungs with donor lungs for end-stage lung disease

Why Lung Transplant Is Needed

Lung transplant is considered for end-stage lung disease that no longer responds to medical treatment, most commonly severe COPD/emphysema, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, cystic fibrosis, or pulmonary hypertension. It becomes necessary once the lungs can no longer provide adequate oxygen exchange to sustain daily activities despite maximum medical therapy.

Signs You May Need Lung Transplant

Patients typically experience severe, progressive breathlessness even at rest, chronic low oxygen levels requiring supplemental oxygen, frequent lung infections or exacerbations, and significant limitation in daily activities. Bluish discoloration of lips or fingertips and marked fatigue signal advanced respiratory failure warranting transplant evaluation.

Types of Lung Transplant

Single lung transplant replaces one diseased lung and is often used for conditions like pulmonary fibrosis, while bilateral (double) lung transplant replaces both lungs and is generally preferred for infectious conditions like cystic fibrosis to avoid leaving a diseased lung in place. Heart-lung transplant, though rare, is performed when severe heart disease accompanies end-stage lung failure.
