Types of Radical Cystectomy

Open radical cystectomy removes the bladder and surrounding organs through a lower abdominal incision, while robotic-assisted and laparoscopic radical cystectomy achieve the same removal through smaller incisions with potentially less blood loss and faster recovery. Following bladder removal, urinary diversion is created using either an ileal conduit (external bag), a continent reservoir, or a neobladder constructed from intestine to allow more normal urination.
