Types of Mediastinoscopy
Cervical mediastinoscopy, the standard technique, involves a small incision at the base of the neck through which a scope reaches the central chest to biopsy lymph nodes. Video-assisted mediastinoscopy uses a camera for a magnified, recorded view, and anterior mediastinotomy (Chamberlain procedure) accesses nodes on the side of the chest not reachable by the standard cervical approach.
