Types of Fundoplication
Nissen fundoplication, the most common technique, wraps the top of the stomach 360 degrees around the lower esophagus to reinforce the valve that prevents reflux, typically performed laparoscopically. Partial wraps, such as Toupet (270 degrees) or Dor (anterior, 180-200 degrees) fundoplication, are used in patients with weaker esophageal motility to reduce the risk of difficulty swallowing after surgery.
