Types of Sigmoidoscopy
Flexible sigmoidoscopy, using a thin flexible scope, is the standard modern approach and far more common than the older rigid sigmoidoscopy, which offered a more limited view and is now rarely used. It differs from a full colonoscopy in that it only examines the sigmoid colon and rectum rather than the entire large intestine.
