Why Biopsy Is Needed
A biopsy is ordered when imaging, blood tests, or physical examination reveal a suspicious lump, lesion, or abnormal tissue that cannot be definitively diagnosed without microscopic examination. It's commonly used to confirm or rule out cancer, but is equally important for diagnosing infections, autoimmune conditions, and chronic inflammatory diseases.
