Causes of Bacterial Vaginosis
Overgrowth of certain bacteria (Gardnerella vaginalis) disrupting the normal lactobacillus-dominant vaginal flora. Risk factors include new or multiple sexual partners, douching, and smoking.
Symptoms of Bacterial Vaginosis
Thin, gray or white vaginal discharge, fishy-smelling odor (especially after sex), vaginal itching, burning during urination. Many women have no symptoms.
