Folic acid (ideally started before conception) to prevent neural tube defects, iron as needed, calcium and vitamin D per local guidance, and iodine. Avoid high-dose vitamin A. Always confirm doses with your obstetrician.
Folic acid works in the first four weeks, often before pregnancy is confirmed, which is why it is advised before conception for anyone planning a pregnancy.
Avoid self-prescribing. High-dose vitamin A is teratogenic, and some herbal and Ayurvedic products are unsafe in pregnancy — show everything you take to your obstetrician.
