Audiometry

Audiometry is a hearing test that measures the softest sounds a person can hear at different pitches (frequencies), used to diagnose and quantify hearing loss. It helps distinguish between conductive hearing loss, caused by problems in the outer or middle ear, and sensorineural hearing loss, caused by inner ear or nerve problems. The results are plotted on an audiogram, which guides decisions about treatment such as hearing aids, surgery, or further investigation. It is commonly performed for people experiencing hearing difficulty, occupational hearing monitoring, or before hearing aid fitting.

Audiometry is recommended for patients diagnosed with specific conditions where other approaches have been insufficient. Your ENT (Otorhinolaryngology) specialist will assess your suitability based on your diagnosis, health history, and treatment goals.

The typical duration is 20-30 minutes. This may vary based on the complexity of your case and individual response to treatment.

Recovery typically takes No recovery is needed since the test involves no physical intervention. Results are available immediately, and the ENT specialist discusses findings and any recommended treatment or hearing aid options during the same visit.. Your care team will provide specific instructions based on your response and overall health.

Side effects vary by individual and are detailed in the section above. Your specialist will discuss all risks and benefits with you before treatment begins. Serious adverse effects are uncommon but are part of the informed consent process.

Audiometry has a documented success rate of Highly effective at accredited facilities. Outcomes depend on disease stage, patient health, and adherence to the treatment plan and aftercare instructions.
