Why Dacryocystorhinostomy Is Needed

DCR is recommended when the nasolacrimal duct — the channel that drains tears from the eye into the nose — becomes blocked, most commonly from chronic inflammation, scarring after infection, injury, or, less often, a tumor pressing on the duct. Recurrent dacryocystitis (infection of the tear sac) that keeps relapsing despite antibiotics is one of the strongest indications for surgery.
