Types of Heart Bypass Surgery (CABG)
Traditional (on-pump) CABG stops the heart temporarily and uses a heart-lung machine while surgeons graft healthy blood vessels (from the leg, arm, or chest wall) around blocked arteries. Off-pump (beating-heart) CABG performs the same grafting while the heart continues beating, avoiding the heart-lung machine, and minimally invasive or robotic-assisted CABG uses smaller incisions for selected patients with less extensive disease.
