Why Pyloroplasty Is Needed

Pyloroplasty widens the pylorus, the muscular valve between the stomach and small intestine, when it becomes too narrow or obstructed, often due to scarring from chronic peptic ulcer disease, or as part of managing delayed stomach emptying (gastroparesis) that has not responded to medications or dietary changes. It is also sometimes performed alongside other surgeries, like a vagotomy, to help the stomach empty properly afterward.
