Types of Pulmonary Function Tests (PFT)
Spirometry, measuring how much and how fast air moves in and out of the lungs, is the most common test, while lung volume measurement (plethysmography) assesses total lung capacity, and diffusion capacity testing (DLCO) evaluates how well oxygen passes into the blood. A bronchodilator reversibility test is often added to distinguish asthma from COPD.
