Types of Glaucoma Surgery (Trabeculectomy)
Traditional trabeculectomy creates a new drainage channel under a partial-thickness scleral flap to let fluid drain and lower pressure, sometimes combined with an antimetabolite like mitomycin-C to prevent scarring of the new channel. Alternative or combined approaches include tube shunt (glaucoma drainage device) surgery for more complex cases, and minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) techniques for milder disease.
