Types of Pericardiocentesis
The standard approach is echocardiography-guided percutaneous needle drainage, considered the safest and most precise method, while fluoroscopy-guided drainage is used in cardiac catheterization labs for certain cases. In emergencies without imaging guidance, a blind pericardiocentesis may be performed, and surgical drainage (pericardial window) is reserved for recurrent or loculated effusions.
