Why Apicoectomy Is Needed

An apicoectomy is needed when a previous root canal treatment fails to resolve infection at the tip of the tooth root, often because of complex canal anatomy, a missed canal, or a fracture that a standard root canal cannot reach. Persistent infection, cysts, or granulomas at the root tip that don't respond to retreatment also make this surgery necessary. It is typically considered a last resort to save a tooth before extraction.
