Techniques include underlay and overlay grafting, where tissue, often taken from the patient's own temporalis muscle fascia, is placed beneath or over the perforation to seal it, and in more complex cases, the procedure may be combined with ossiculoplasty to repair or reconstruct the small hearing bones behind the eardrum if they've been damaged.
