Why Laryngectomy Is Needed

Laryngectomy is most commonly performed for laryngeal cancer that has grown too large or invasive for radiation or partial surgery alone to control, or for cancer that has recurred after previous treatment. It is also occasionally needed for severe trauma to the larynx or extensive radiation damage that has destroyed normal voice box function.
