Types of Kidney Biopsy
The most common approach is a percutaneous biopsy, where a needle is guided by ultrasound through the skin into the kidney to obtain a tissue sample, performed under local anaesthesia with sedation. In select cases where percutaneous access is risky, an open or laparoscopic biopsy performed surgically, or a transjugular approach through a vein, may be used instead.
