Types of Laminectomy

The classic approach is open laminectomy, removing the entire lamina to fully decompress the canal, often combined with spinal fusion for stability. Minimally invasive laminectomy uses tubular retractors and a microscope through a smaller incision for less muscle disruption, while laminotomy or laminoplasty remove only part of the lamina or hinge it open to preserve more of the natural spine structure.
