Types of Abscess Drainage

Simple incision and drainage under local anesthesia is used for small, superficial abscesses, while larger or deep abscesses may need drainage under sedation or general anesthesia, sometimes with ultrasound or CT-guided percutaneous drainage. Packing or a drain may be left temporarily to keep the cavity open for continued drainage.
