Why Colectomy Is Needed
Colectomy is performed to treat colon cancer, remove diseased bowel affected by severe or complicated Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis, or manage recurrent diverticulitis that hasn't responded to medical treatment. It may also be needed for a bowel obstruction, perforation, or precancerous polyps too large or numerous to remove endoscopically.
