Vitiligo is classified as non-segmental, the most common form, causing symmetrical patches on both sides of the body and typically progressing gradually over time, versus segmental, causing patches limited to one area or side of the body, often appearing earlier in life and progressing more rapidly before stabilizing. Non-segmental vitiligo is further described by extent as focal, involving a few isolated patches, or generalized, involving widespread patches across the body, with the pattern influencing both prognosis and treatment approach.
