Types of Whipple Procedure

The classic Whipple removes the head of the pancreas, duodenum, gallbladder, and part of the stomach with reconstruction of the digestive tract, while a pylorus-preserving Whipple keeps the stomach outlet intact to help preserve more normal digestion; the surgery can be performed as open surgery or, in select experienced centers, via minimally invasive or robotic-assisted techniques.
