Why Gastrectomy Is Needed

Gastrectomy is performed mainly for stomach cancer, to remove the tumor along with surrounding tissue and lymph nodes, and less commonly for severe peptic ulcers that cause uncontrollable bleeding, perforation, or don't heal despite medication. It may also be used for certain severe cases of gastric bleeding or perforation from other underlying stomach diseases.
