Why Lumbar Puncture (Spinal Tap) Is Needed
A lumbar puncture is performed to diagnose suspected meningitis or encephalitis, evaluate for subarachnoid haemorrhage when a brain scan is inconclusive, or investigate conditions like multiple sclerosis and other neurological disorders through cerebrospinal fluid analysis. It can also be used therapeutically to relieve pressure in certain conditions or to administer medication directly into the spinal fluid.
