Common causes are swallowed air, high-FODMAP foods, constipation, lactose intolerance, IBS, small intestinal bacterial overgrowth, and rapid eating. Bloating with weight loss, bleeding, or persistent pain needs investigation, especially in women over 50 (ovarian cancer).
Common contributors: constipation with stool loading, lactose or fructose malabsorption, high-FODMAP foods, carbonated drinks, and eating quickly.
