Types of Colectomy

Partial colectomy removes only the diseased section of colon, while total colectomy removes the entire colon, sometimes with the rectum as well for extensive disease like ulcerative colitis. Laparoscopic or robotic-assisted colectomy, using small incisions, is now commonly preferred over open surgery when feasible, offering a faster recovery.
