Why Mastectomy Is Needed

Mastectomy is performed to treat diagnosed breast cancer, particularly when the tumour is large relative to breast size, multiple tumours are present, or breast-conserving surgery (lumpectomy) is not a suitable option. It is also performed preventively in high-risk patients, such as those carrying BRCA gene mutations, to significantly reduce future cancer risk.
