Polycystic ovary syndrome involves irregular ovulation, elevated androgens (acne, excess hair), and often polycystic ovarian morphology, frequently with insulin resistance. Treatment targets goals: lifestyle and metformin for metabolic aspects, hormonal contraceptives for cycle and androgen control, letrozole for fertility.
Most women with PCOS can conceive, often with ovulation induction using letrozole, which has better results than clomiphene in PCOS.
Even 5-10% weight loss can restore ovulation in women with PCOS and excess weight, and improves the metabolic picture at the same time.
