Types of Mastoidectomy
Simple (cortical) mastoidectomy removes only the infected mastoid air cells while keeping the middle ear structures intact, typically used for uncomplicated mastoiditis. Radical and modified radical mastoidectomy remove more extensive diseased tissue, including parts of the middle ear, for advanced cholesteatoma or chronic disease, sometimes combined with procedures to reconstruct hearing.
